JOB OVERVIEW
SCOPE OF WORK: The Estimator is to grow the company by achieving sales and profitability objectives for new projects and clientele through comprehensive cost estimating and project award
REPORTS TO: Estimating Department Manager
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Five (5) years of experience in the electrical construction field
- Previous electrical estimating experience is preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred Associates Degree or Certificate from an Accredited Electrical Program
- Ability to be self-sufficient to complete entire estimates from start to finish or work in a team to meet project deadlines
- Strong math and computer skills
- Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Expert knowledge of electrical materials/methods used in construction as well as local and national electrical codes and regulations governing them
- Effective problem-solving ability to research and satisfactorily resolve issues
- Ability to value engineer and come up with cost-effective solutions
- Must exhibit attention to detail to recognize project discrepancies and determine the best course of action to resolve
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategize how to win work with appropriate margin to meet sales goals
- Develop and maintain client relationships to improve bid hit win ratios
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam Revu and ConEst Intellibid
- Read and interpret plans and specifications to determine project scope
- Prepare quantity takeoff and qualify vendor/sub packages to complete bids by the required deadlines
- Contact vendors and subcontractors to assure adequate pricing for the projects and adequate scope coverage per contract requirements
- Create written proposals detailing scope of work as well as any alternates or value engineering options
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to inspect existing site conditions
- Actively build key vendor/subcontractor relationships to ensure best pricing
- Note any special conditions/considerations during take off to provide to the project manager after contract award
- Assist in preparing budget reports, schedules, and project manpower estimates
- Compile bid notes, reports, and overall project summary and provide to the project manager at project hand off
- Prepare change order proposals for awarded contracts as needed
- Maintain accurate and organized files on all projects estimated
- Manage time and deadlines effectively in accordance with estimating schedules
- Assist in qualifying project leads from multiple sources, including: web based postings, publications, business contacts, etc. and route projects of opportunity to the Business Manager
- Regularly examine estimating processes and procedures to identify areas of improvement and coordinate with estimating team about best methods of implementation
- Participate in training opportunities to stay current with the industry and position requirements.

JOB PHYSICAL FUNCTION
- Involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer

- Must be able to climb ladders, sit, bend, stoop, stand or walk for extended periods
- Must be able to travel to job site locations
