POSITION SUMMARY:
Miller-Thomas-Gyekis, Inc. (“MTG”), a commercial roofing and sheet metal fabrication firm, is seeking a motivated individual who is looking to join an exciting and diverse team. This is a tremendous opportunity for someone who wishes to join a specialty roofing contractor that performs work on many construction projects throughout the southwestern Pennsylvania area. Qualified candidates will have experience estimating for a wide range of commercial roofing systems, including: single-ply, ballasted, hot, cold, torch-applied, modified, and built-up. Must be proficient in performing roof measurements, reading architectural drawings, interpreting construction schedules and bid data, and entering information into estimating and project management programs (such as Microsoft Excel). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has excellent verbal and written communication skills, and manages their time with little direction while staying focused on top priorities. Must be able to successfully negotiate and secure contracts and subcontracts ranging from small projects to multi-million dollar jobs. The candidate should be a self-starter who is driven, sales-oriented, and fosters professional relationships with both peers and clients. Must be good with numbers and have excellent spatial reasoning abilities. This position requires customer interaction at a high level, so excellent customer service and support skills will be needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Prior experience as a construction/large commercial roofing Estimator is strongly preferred, though a combination of education and/or field experience will also be considered.
– Knowledgeable of commercial roofing systems, including: single-ply, ballasted, hot, cold, torch-applied, modified, and built-up.
– Proficient in performing roof measurements, reading architectural drawings, interpreting construction schedules and bid data, and entering information into estimating and project management programs (such as Microsoft Excel).
– Understands invitations to bid/requests for proposals.
– Understands project manuals (specifications) and architectural drawings.
– Safety conscious and willing to adhere to/support others on company safety policies and procedures.
– Capable of comprehending, explaining, and presenting roofing system solutions to customers.
– In order to complete essential job functions, must be able to perform basic physical demands, including climbing ladders, accessing roofs, walking, sitting, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
– Must have a valid driver’s license.
– Successful background check.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Procurement of Jobs:
– Search for and identify jobs currently out for bid.
– Pursue private leads for potential jobs.
– Track sales and current backlogs of competitors.
– Negotiate and secure contracts and subcontracts ranging from small projects to multi- million dollar jobs.
– Follow up on previously submitted bids/quotes.
– Be a company liaison for MTG within the local roofing industry (architects, roof,
consultants, general contractors, vendors, competitors, manufacturer’s reps, owner’s reps, etc.)
Estimating:
– The Estimator is a member of the Estimation/Bid Committee and shall attend each meeting (all estimates/bids must be approved by the Chair of the Committee).
– Contribute to team effort and work with other company departments to determine a practicable profit margin for each project (based on factors such as type of project, competition, current work backlog, market conditions, etc.)
– Accurately track leads and bids.
– Read and understand architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
– Perform highly detailed takeoffs from all drawings.
– Perform building surveys and core sampling as required.
– Prepare accurate estimates using Excel spreadsheets/other software, and demonstrate the ability to transfer data from takeoffs.
– Ensure that all working documents and data are maintained to back up estimate figures.
– Write clear, concise, customer-oriented proposals.
– Demonstrate the ability to follow up on and close deals.
– Attend all pertinent pre-bid meetings.
– Conduct roof surveys and meet with clients to assess requirements, take measurements and photos, and to collect data to be used for bids and quotes.
– Track and manage awarded contracts, including estimating change orders, additions, credits, materials, etc.
– Build and grow business relationships with clients in target markets.
– Interact with company staff at all levels to monitor job budgets and costs and to provide technical support/guidance as needed.
– Is back-up for Project Managers in their absence.
– Perform other activities as MTG deems necessary to meets its goals and objectives.
