Atlas Wholesale Supply, Inc., is one of the region’s leading suppliers of commercial and residential building products and industrial and commercial insulations. Boasting the best warehouse and office facilities in the industry, Atlas Wholesale is also looking to add talent to its industry-leading staff. Atlas Wholesale is currently looking to add an experienced building supplies buyer. Candidate will work primarily with other buyers to procure lumber, drywall, insulation, metal, commercial ceilings, flooring, and many other building materials. Candidate will also work closely with sales and customer service teams to identify customer needs. Candidate will work with shipping and receiving on both incoming and outgoing orders as well as inventory management. Proactive and direct communication with suppliers is vital, as well as the processing of purchase orders (PO’s), placement and expedition of orders, and resolution of related problems. The position would be on-site 100% to start, however remote opportunities may present themselves as experience with the company is attained. Compensation commensurate with competence and skill level.
Additional Tasks:
- Identifying new product and business lines to drive sales and profits
- Monitor trends in the service supply or product markets, as well as monitor service levels and take corrective action when necessary
- Perform research concerning product availability, alternative suppliers, and value analysis
- Obtain competitive bids when appropriate; negotiate price, purchase terms, and rebates
- Routinely work with sales and customer service to advise and recommend alternatives to requested products
- Expedite orders delayed due to vendor or manufacturer backorders, credit holds, or emergency requirements and obtains acceptable substitutes as required
- Update job knowledge by participating in trade shows and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Perform other procurement-related administrative tasks including invoice discrepancy resolution, payment authorizations, compiling statistical data and reports, etc.
Education:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree preferred in business, finance, accounting, entrepreneurial, supply chain management or like areas of study
Experience / Skills / Qualifications:
- Two years experience buying/procuring building materials, lumber preferred
- Working knowledge of the construction industry
- Inventory management and logistics understanding preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Flexibility to adjust and thrive in a high-paced environment with changing requirements, schedules, and priorities for multiple projects and assignments
- Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as working with others while also promoting positive change
- Well-developed communication skills; able to clearly and concisely express information (or data) to associates, peers, and management
- Creative, entrepreneurial minded, with a strong comfort level in taking measurable risks
